Here’s a great deal on a New, Old Stock (NOS) Taylor Custom GA acoustic guitar in Spruce and figured Walnut, dating to early 2015 and at a significant price reduction!
As the name suggests, the Taylor Custom GA is from Taylor’s Custom programme, sometimes known as BTO or ‘Build To Order’. The GA stands for Grand Auditorium, one of the larger body sizes but smaller than a Jumbo or Dreadnought.
This example features a Sitka Spruce top with figured Walnut for the sides, back and headplate, with plain Tropical Mahogany for the body blocks and neck. The body and neck binding, and the heel cap plus some other accents are Indian Rosewood. The nut and compensated saddle are Bone.
The fingerboard inlay material is wood, possibly Walnut, while the Taylor logo inlay is Acrylic. The fingerboard, bridge and truss rod cover are Crelicam Ebony (Diospyros crass flora), which often presents a marbled, black and brown appearance, though in this case the wood is pretty uniformly dark. The marbled visual appearance is significant, because it represents socially and environmentally responsible forestry practices while having no impact on the structural or tonal properties of the wood. In 2011, Taylor partnered with Madinter Trade, a wood distributor, to buy the Crelicam mill. This has worked out well for all concerned.
For hardware, gold-coloured Gotoh 510 tuners are installed, and of course there’s the excellent Taylor ES pickup system as factory stock. The controls are mounted on the side next to the bass side of the heel, and the output jack and easily accessible battery compartment are at the tailblock. The electronics run off a standard 9v battery, turned on by inserting a standard 1/4-inch plug into the jack. To turn the battery off, just unplug the cable. This New Old Stock Taylor GA is sold as new, and its original Taylor warranty applies.
