Its French polish finish is very light, so as not to restrict the wood’s vibration, and is displaying natural sinking into the pores of the wood. It plays well and is very responsive with a well developed voice.

Sold with an oversized hard shell case.

Materials and Construction

As the name suggests, this Oskar Graf Hauser style guitar follows the German approach to classical guitar construction. The top is European Spruce, paired with Indian Rosewood for the sides, back, head plate and bridge. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany, the kerfed top and solid back linings are Maple. The top is braced with Spruce, while the back braces appear to be Spanish Cedar. The fingerboard is Ebony, and unusual for a classical guitar has a light crown.

For hardware, a set of excellent Landstorfer / Reischl tuners are installed. Later, Oskar Graf would use tuners built by his brother Jurgen.

The finish is French Polish, and shows signs of typical play wear, particularly where the player's arm rested on the lower bass bout. Cleaning should be done carefully, ideally with a damp microfiber cloth. Solvents should never be used on these delicate shellac finishes. On the back, there are two spots where the instrument rested on something like a vinyl, rubber or foam padded guitar stand, which reacted with the shellac finish.

About Oskar Graf

Born in Berlin, the late Oskar Graf began building instruments in 1970 and his work is very highly regarded; his guitars are used by many top players. Working for many years in Clarendon, late in his life he moved to Westport, a beautiful small town north of Kingston. His brother Jurgen also builds high quality classical guitar tuning gears. After building many, many instruments over decades, Oskar Graf passed away in August 2025 at age 81.

<table style="width: 100%;
