This model was introduced in 1993 as a slightly smaller, lighter bass with more versatile and modern tones than the classic StingRay.   \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Sterling Bass model is named for Ernie Ball's son Sterling (the current owner and chairman of the company; his son Brian Ball is CEO) and is US made, but is not to be confused with Sterling by Music Man instruments, their lower cost import instrument line. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eMaterials and Construction\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is an excellent bass and in great shape.  The body is Northern Ash, paired with an oil\/wax finish, 34 inch scale Indian Rosewood fingerboard Maple neck.  The head is Music Man's characteristic 3+1 tuner setup, reducing the overall instrument length and improving balance.  The truss rod adjuster is a spoke type at the body end, easily accessible without removing the neck or pickguard. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe bass plays well and cleanly, and offers an impressive range of tones with its ceramic humbucker that can be run in series, parallel or a single coil mode with phantom coil for noise cancellation.
