The Collings SoCo line represent an extremely well crafted take on the semi-solid, thinline archtop guitar concept that dates back to the 1958 introduction of the ES-335.
This Collings SoCo dark cherry burst example, built during 2010 at the Collings shop in Austin Texas, is somewhat unusual in having a solid, carved Maple top - not laminate. In current production, this would be a Deluxe and would also have rectangular position markers, distinct from the dots on this guitar. The pickups are Lollar Low-Wind Imperial humbuckers.
This is in very nice condition and plays very well – as one expects from a Collings. The fit and finish are as good as you will get from any production guitar.
The well figured solid Maple top and Dark Cherry finish are really an unbeatable combination, giving a deep, ripping, organic effect.
The Collings SoCo is built with a carved, figured Maple top on a carved Honduran Mahogany back, Mahogany sides and neck and a bound Ebony fingerboard. Mother of Pearl is used for the position marker dots and Collings logo headstock inlays.
For hardware, Gotoh tuners with Ivoroid keystone buttons are at the headstock, and a locking Tone Pros Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop tailpiece set are at the body. The electronics start with Lollar Imperial humbuckers, and these run through a standard pickup selector with individual volume and tone controls. Collings’ distinctive, in-house Ivoroid control knobs really set off the body.
The original Collings-branded hard shell case by Armitage is included, and contains the Certificate of Authenticity.
