Description
The Alembic Epic 4 bass guitar features a pair of low-impedance MXY4 pickups and active tone circuitry. It was introduced in 1994 as an affordable entry into Alembic's bass line.
It's fairly rare to see these for sale on the used market. This Alembic Epic 4 bass is in very good, clean and original condition with very light wear. The original fitted case is included.
Construction and Materials
The Alembic Epic 4 bass, like the 5 and 6 string versions, uses a set neck and a body built up of several layers.
While the company offers many custom options, this 1996 Alembic Epic 4 bass has a Mahogany body with a Wenge top. The neck is primarily three Maple sections and two more fill out the head shape. The headstock overlay is likely Zebrawood. The fingerboard is Ebony with only side dot position markers.
The finish is a polyurethane that Alembic no longer uses as, they tell us, has been discontinued by its manufacturer and their current polyester finish does not play well with Wenge.
The hardware is custom for Alembic, using Brass for an adjustable nut, bridge and tailpiece. The tuners are excellent Gotoh models. The electronics start with a pair of MXTY4 low-impedance pickups, volume, pan pot, and active treble and bass controls. These are powered by a single 9v battery under the rear control plate.
